GEARFX DRIVELINE
First Gear
C&R Racing has long been known for performance-quality radiators, transmissions and driveline components. The company was founded in 1988 by sprint car and modified chassis builder, and long-time IndyCar chief mechanic Chris Paulsen. Over its 30-year history, C&R Racing has evolved to meet the growing demands from various racing and performance markets.
At its inception, the company focused primarily on machine and fabrication efforts for IndyCar teams as well as manufacturing components for Riley & Scott, the Trans-Am chassis builder at the time. In 1991, C&R Racing built its first NASCAR radiator for Roush Racing. Shortly thereafter they were providing all the cooling for Richard Childress Racing and Dale Earnhardt, and within three years had 100-percent of the NASCAR cooling system business.
When IndyCar moved to the Dallara all-spec built car in 2012, C&R Racing shifted its efforts to the high-performance aftermarket, designing cooling system modules for muscle car brands including Mustangs, Camaros, Chevelles, and more. C&R Racing was sold in 2015 to PWR, the leading supplier of motorsports cooling systems for premier race series including Formula 1, WEC, WRC, DTM, NASCAR and IndyCar.
Shifting Up
In April 2018, automotive performance entrepreneur and long-time racer Kyle Tucker acquired the driveline division of C&R Racing (South) located in Mooresville, NC. Tucker is best known as the co-founder of Detroit Speed, a leading automotive aftermarket chassis and suspension component manufacturer.
Now under the same leadership of the trusted Detroit Speed family of products and services, the driveline division of C&R Racing (South) has been rebranded as GearFX Driveline. GearFX will continue to operate independently out of its 15,000 square foot Mooresville, NC location while delivering the same high-quality driveline components the industry has come to expect.
This partnership combines the automotive knowledge of two industry-leading companies with the primary goal of producing the quietest rear gears. With enhanced dyno break-in and testing processes, each component will be hand-picked based on track-tested quality and function. Customers will be able to better understand when and by whom each component was built thanks for a one-of-a-kind unique serial number associated with each unit.
Switching Gears
Detroit Speed is committed to providing you with the best engineered parts you can find. We always strive for perfection in all that we do, from product design, product manufacturing, and development but also the way we interact with our customers. In the words of Vince Lombardi ..."We are going to relentlessly chase perfection, knowing full well we will not catch it, because nothing is perfect. But we are going to relentlessly chase it, because in the process we will catch excellence. I am not remotely interested in just being good". Detroit Speed has never settled for "good", all our skilled people will continue to push the limits in all that we do. Our products are designed in house by our own team of engineers that are in-tune with not only the latest manufacturing practices but also produced in the USA.
In addition to new products we continue to refine our current product offerings through continuous improvement. We log thousands of miles and thousands of laps in our development cars each year so we can not only enjoy the events with fellow enthusiasts but also chase perfection in our products.
We also build cars for great customers and in the process we learn how to make our products not only fit and function the best possible way but we also find ideas for new products as we build. We are our own customer just like you. We have built many award winning cars over the years but the best part continues to be the excitement and smiles we get in return when a dream car becomes a reality.
